The Honor brand, which American sanctions forced to separate from Huawei for some time, is still watched by the American government.
Sanctions that the US authorities imposed on Huawei forced a deep reorganization of the Chinese company. Huawei has given up the smartphone market in the US, focusing on laptops or creating its own Harmony OS system platform that can operate on a wide range of mobile devices. The Huawei sub-brand, that is Honor, also received a solid blow. The salvation for Honor was to be the sale of this brand to a consortium of Chinese companies. The plan worked, Honor began to recover – but the threat of US sanctions is still real.
The Americans previously wanted to impose sanctions on Honor. Today this topic returns with greater force. Earlier, Honor was subject to sanctions by a group of Republican politicians, and now, according to The Washington Post, the Pentagon and the Department of Energy are considering the imposition of sanctions. In turn, the Department of Commerce and the Department of State express the opposite opinion, which may lead to a situation in which the decision rests on the shoulders of the US Cabinet, and if it is not possible to work out a convergent position here, the final decision will be made by the president. What will it be – it is not known, but for now Joe Biden gives the impression that – at least in this case – he wants to continue the course started by his predecessor, Donald Trump
