The technological race in the field of energy storage in mobile devices is constantly gaining momentum. In terms of the batteries themselves, it is rather slow, but in terms of charging technologies – impressively fast. This is perfectly illustrated by the example of OPPO in the field of research on fast charging technology.

As part of the special OPPO Flash Charge Open Day event “What’s Next for Flash Charging?” The manufacturer presented a new generation of Flash charging technology, which is to significantly improve the speed, security, and intelligence of charging, both wired and wireless. OPPO VOOC Flash Charge builds on innovation throughout the fast charging system, which includes a charging adapter, charging cable, PMIC (Power Management IC), and a battery.

Here are the introductory benefits of the enhanced VOOC Flash Charge technology:

Improved safety with a five-piece protection system consisting of a lower impedance fuse, gallium nitride (GaN) switches, dual battery cells in one structure, and OPPO Battery Safety Detection Chip with built-in AI algorithms, and a composite current collector to better protect the battery against short circuits caused by external factors.

Intelligent charging technology, firstly, optimizes the charging speed, so that it can be increased depending on the specific situation based on the instantaneous maximum power. In the case of the 65W SuperVOOC, the speed can be increased by approximately 20%, allowing the 4500mAh battery to be fully charged in 30 minutes as needed. Secondly, it balances the charging speeds and temperature of the phone, and thirdly, it affects the longer battery life. This technology is able to maintain the battery capacity up to 80% of its original capacity even after 1,500 charging cycles.

Optimization of fast charging technology in more extreme situations. For example, charging a lithium-ion battery can be difficult in very cold temperatures, where forcing it to charge can even cause a short circuit. OPPO’s Ultra Low-Temperature Charging solution uses intelligent algorithms to determine the optimal battery charging temperature and increase the temperature before charging begins. Test results show that the battery is able to increase its temperature from -20? up to 10? in just a few tens of seconds, which allows it to be charged normally.

By June 2021, OPPO has already filed over 3,000 patents related to fast charging technology. In turn, the VOOC Flash Charge technology itself, available in over 30 devices, is already used by over 195 million people around the world.

OPPO launched a new project - The Flash Initiative - bringing its patented VOOC technology to cars, public spaces, and chips in a wide range of devices.
