Apple expects a huge demand for future Series 13 iPhones. The company has ordered over 100 million A15 Bionic processors for use in next-generation iPhones.

Last year, 75 million iPhones were produced, which would mean a production increase of over 25%.

The A15 Bionic chip, manufactured by TSMC, still uses 5nm technology and the same processor chip as the A14 Bionic. Nevertheless, the new processor is to ensure better performance and energy efficiency. In addition to the new processor, the iPhone 13 series models will (apparently) have a ProMotion 120Hz display, larger batteries, and cameras with automatic matrix stabilization.

A15 Bionic = 5nm

Like its A14 Bionic predecessor, the A15 Bionic is based on 5nm (nanometer) technology, and Apple expects to halt the 3nm jump to A16 in 2022. But we can still expect a series of iterative improvements in terms of performance, efficiency, and reliability this year.

Taiwanese supplier TSMC is responsible for the production of the A15 chips, as Apple does not have its own factories and relies on partners for component manufacturing and general assembly. Ordering such large quantities can only be caused by two things:

– very high demand for Apple phones
– an attempt to avoid the lack of equipment on the market due to the lack of components.
