End of 108... Start 200 !!!

Does the end of the year mark the beginning of the era of new 200 megapixel matrices? It is very likely because Samsung has presented a new 200 MPX Isocell HP1 photo sensor and a 50-megapixel Isocell GN5.

The Isocell HP1 chip is a matrix with a resolution of 200 million pixels, with a single pixel of 0.64 micrometers. This solution was designed to work in good lighting conditions. In lower light conditions, the technology of combining adjacent pixels into a large super pixel will be used – called ChameleonCell. Pixels will be combined in the 50 megapixel mode (and a size of 1.28 micrometers) or – in the dark – up to 12 megapixels with a single pixel size of 2.56 micrometers. In addition, when recording video (maximum 8K, 30fps), the pixels will be combined in a 4-to-1 mode. It has not been specified when the HP1 matrix will appear in commercially offered devices, but it can be assumed that it will happen even before the end of this year. The HP1 may debut in the next Xiaomi flagship, it is also possible that one of its first applications will be the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

In addition to the 200-megapixel, Samsung also presented a new matrix with a resolution of 50 megapixels. In this arrangement, a single pixel has a size of 1 micrometer, therefore it is slightly smaller than in the recently presented GN2 matrix with the same resolution. The size of the converter is not important here, but faster autofocus.
