It is very noisy around Qualcomm’s modems. This SOC is very dangerous to the users, which allows hackers to gain access to text messages, phone calls, and in some cases even unlock the SIM card. The vulnerability affects Xiaomi, Google, LG, Samsung, OnePlus, and other phones with the latest Qualcomm processors.

According to the Israeli company Check Point Research, a vulnerability in the Mobile Station Modem allows the injection of malicious code into modem software via Qualcomm MSM Interface (QMI). An estimated up to 30 percent of all Android phones have Qualcomm modem software that has this vulnerability, which translates into millions of phones worldwide. Hackers can exploit this vulnerability to gain access to the user’s call history and SMS, listen to user calls, and in some cases even unlock the SIM card.

Qualcomm is aware of the vulnerability and has already released a patch. In a statement, a company representative said Qualcomm Technologies had already released patches to OEMs in December 2020. It is not known which manufacturers have already patched the devices and on which specific models. It is worth adding that Google intends to release the patch along with the June security patches.
