The screen is one of the main factors that people take into account when they want to buy a new smartphone. Each company has its own technology used in smartphones. For this reason, each technology has some good and bad parameters.

At the beginning, every user should know what type of screen can be found in the market. The table below presents the most common parameters that can be found in the smartphones specification. On the following pages you can find a more detailed explanation of each parameter.

Model:18,5:9 / With notch screen
Display Size:6,1”
Resolution:1080 x 2240
Pixel density:408 ppi
Technology:OLED
Screen-to-body ratio:82.00%
Features:HDR video support, Pressure-sensitive, Oleophobic coating, Scratch-resistant glass,  Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor

Display Size

This is the most popular and basic parameter. A number with an inch (“) represents the size of the screen. The value is measured from the upper right corner to the lower left.

1”= 1 in = 1 cal = 25,4 mm

Resolution

This is another parameter that affects the quality of the displayed image. One pixel on the smartphone screen represents only one dot. This is the smallest point that can be displayed on the screen. The latest smartphones have a resolution of around 1080 pixels width and a resolution of about 2,240 pixels height. The higher the resolution, the sharper and better is the image.

Sometimes you can find information on the aspect ratio (16×9 or 18.5×9). This value is only a way to represent the screen resolution depending on the width and height of the screen.

Pixel Density

The abbreviation for this parameter is (ppi), which means pixels per inch and this is the measurement of the pixel density (resolution) of the electronic device. On the smartphone it is only a number representing the number of pixels of the smartphone per inch. To calculate this, we use a very simple formula:

Where a – is width resolution in pixels, b – is height resolution in pixels, x – is diagonal size in inches (size of the screen)

According to this formula we can calculate PPI for screen as:

Screen-To-Body ratio

Screen-To-Body ratio is a percentage representing how big your screen is according to complete smartphone body size. Two years ago it was very easy to calculate this parameter, because most of smartphones had a rectangular shape. According to this we calculated screen surface and complete body surface using just simple formula (A x B) and then we compare these two values. Now it is more complicated, because we have rounded edges, notch screen for camera and sometimes bend edges. The main formula to represent Screen-To-Body ratio is represented below.
