The European Union is constantly fighting to establish a single standard for phone chargers. According to the general opinion, one common standard for charging mobile devices would be beneficial for both users and the environment. Let us add that similar provisions were proposed in 2018, but were not adopted at that time.

USB-C ???

The European Commission conducted a survey on smartphones sold in the European Union and concluded that:
2018 – 29% of phones used a microUSB connector.
2019 – 29% of devices sold used the USB-C connector and 21% used the Lightning connector.
Currently, work is underway on an act to organize the charging standards, but no details have been presented.

The biggest problem may be with Apple, which has been sticking to the Lightning connector for years, but changes the connector in the charger itself – first, there was USB-A, then USB-C, and nowadays adding a charger to sets with iPhones have been abandoned at all. Apparently, there are environmental reasons for this. On the one hand, some users will be able to use chargers from other devices, but others will have to pay extra for them.
